Forced American Heroes Coloring and Activity Book was designed to help children aged 7 and up celebrate the amazing contributions enslaved people (Forced American Heroes) made to the United States. Each page features a portrait of an enslaved or freed individual and a short summary of his or her accomplishments, as well as interactive activities related to the hero’s life.
Through this book, the reader will have the opportunity to:
- Empathize and connect with the enslaved
- Learn about lesser-known enslaved people and their incredible stories
- Identify and connect with their own ancestors
- Confront slavery without the humiliation, shame, and inaccuracies often accompanying lessons dealing with slavery
- If the reader is a descendant of enslaved people, it gives them an opportunity to acknowledge their intergenerational trauma
- Learn that even though slavery was meant to dehumanize a group of people and force them to work to enrich others, it never took the enslaved’s humanity and ability to achieve greatness.
