Rahkia Nance

Rahkia Nance has been researching her family history for more than a decade is the author of “Red Dirt, Blue Blood: The Story of the Nances of Lower Alabama,” which explores the life and legacy of Ms. Nance’s great-great grandfather Henry Nance, a Tennessee-born slave who went on to become a self-sufficient landowner and farmer in Coffee County, Alabama. 

Ms. Nance is also an award-winning communications professional who has served in a variety of communication leadership roles, A former newspaper reporter, Ms. Nance worked at daily newspapers in suburban Washington, upstate New York and Birmingham, Ala., and her work appeared in outlets including The Washington Post, USA Today and the Associated Press. Ms. Nance has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Florida A&M University, a master’s degree in strategic communication from American University, and a professional certificate in strategic management from Georgetown University. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
